The SANAD Saturday School affords the children the opportunity to maintain their cultural identity and better understand and relate to their parents. Furthering the children's knowledge of their parent's homeland and language will be a major goal for the school.
To this end, the curriculum addresses Sudanese-Arabic Language and Cultural Studies of Sudan, as well as religious studies.
• Conversely, the planning of family outings and activities allows parents to open their eyes to the American culture. Visiting local areas of interest and promoting positive family and community interaction will allow parents to bridge the gap between their home culture and the new common culture. Families within the larger community will benefit as their children begin to associate with the larger community. As children identify with their common heritage, friendships and support will be strengthened and enhanced.
• Classes at the school began in September 2006 and continued through 2014. Classes were held two Saturdays per month, with a third Saturday reserved for outings and social activities.
